Clerestory AV is proud to announce, in conjunction with Burnt Toast Vinyl, the deluxe vinyl reissue of Ester Drang's 2001 landmark album Goldenwest. Available on vinyl for the first time, the album was remastered from original tapes by Chris Colbert and cut to lacquers by Matthew Barnhart at Chicago Mastering, then pressed onto high quality colored vinyl at Gotta Groove in Cleveland. The double LP includes two previously unreleased bonus tracks, and is packaged in a super heavy high-gloss tip-on gatefold jacket. The record is available in three variants: green/yellow swirl vinyl, green/smoke swirl vinyl, and mixed (one of each).

This is an extremely limited pressing, with each label having fewer than 50 copies of each variant available, and a small number of copies being distributed to independent record stores by Redeye Distribution.

Original 2001 press release:
Ester Drang is the newest band from Oklahoma that you might like to know about. With groups like The Flaming Lips and Starlight Mints putting out recent critic-pleasing gems, you could start to believe that the almost-forgotten southern state is secretly charmed... And now, here is GOLDENWEST, the first full-length from Ester Drang. If there is a quiet buzz about Oklahoma, this record will do its share to raise that whisper a notch or two.

The band has been playing in various forms since 1995. They've quietly released an EP and single and steadily added a few players to their original line-up to now include five members and a laundry list of instruments and sounds (guitars, cowbells, samplers, pianos, synthesizers, mini discs, drums and all the percussion you can shake a stick at).

The tracks on GOLDENWEST are intricate compositions with ghostly melodies and pulsing, moody jams. These are well thought out rhythm and guitar based songs that come out full, filling the room with a washed and airy grace. The electronics nestle into the mix perfectly, the band masterfully avoiding any hint of over- indulgence.

The influences here range from My Bloody Valentine to Marvin Gaye... Spiritualized to Roadside Monument... Mogwai to Phillip Glass... Echo and the Bunnymen to Boards of Canada... but there's no ripping off or cheap imitations to be found. Ester Drang plays in a well established tradition without once stepping on any toes or button-holing themselves into any particular buzz-word genre.

GOLDENWEST was recorded at the Green Room in Huntington Beach by Chris Colbert (Elf Power, Summer Hymns) with a little help from Frank Lenz (Lassie Foundation). Along with the stockpile of instruments the boys play on their own, Colbert gracefully topped it off with some guitar, optigan, and stylophone while Lenz added some drums and backing vocals for good measure.

We couldn't be more excited to introduce you to Ester Drang. The band will be playing shows and traveling on mini-tours throughout the states to support GOLDENWEST... and keep an eye out for a new song (which features Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips!!!) the band has recorded for an upcoming Burnt Toast Vinyl interactive/multimedia compilation.
